Get Your Home Ready for Swimsuit Season!
It’s summertime, and you know what that means: being away from home more than usual. Whether it’s being at being out all day running errands, or taking a last minute excursion with your family, you simply cannot be home 24/7. Summertime also means it’s time for the routine maintenance your home needs after braving the winter season. As you’re soaking in the pool this summer, make sure your home isn’t joining in and getting soaked too. A water leak may seem like a minor problem, it can lead to a colossal nightmare if left untreated. According to the American Insurance Association, water damage claims are growing faster than other components of homeowners insurance, making it the second most frequently filed insurance claim in the United States. In 2011 alone, 14 million homeowners suffered from damage due to water, freezing and mold, which resulted in $11 billion in property loss – that’s over 23 percent of all homeowner property losses!
Think about how many hours you’re away from home during the summer. More likely than not, by the time you discover a leak, the damage has already been done; and even a small, unnoticed water leak can produce devastating path of destruction. Imagine coming home after a relaxing weekend getaway, only to find that your finished basement has flooded and water running down your staircase. Sadly, I’m no stranger to this sight, thanks to a broken water main gushing thousands of gallons of water into my finished basement.
The only thing that should be dripping in the hot summer heat are Popsicles, not your pipes and faucets. Here are five tips on how to get your home ready for the summer.
